PROGRAMMES

Have a look at our past programmes:

The Big House Film Society takes a broad view of what constitutes a 'thriller'. Besides the more expected noir and gangster genres, we also have a special fondness for 1970s Hollywood. Silent and non-US titles are also in our range.

We try to programme films so they bounce off each other. The idea is to create a dialogue between the two films' themes that deepens their individual impact through being combined. It doesn't always work that way, but when it does, it's a knockout!

In June, July, and August each year the CMAG theatre goes to shorter winter hours (closing at 4 p.m. instead of the usual 5 p.m.) so we aim then for individual titles of longer duration which can stand alone, often preceded by a short.

We also try to end each year on a lighter note (one does not live by crime alone!) by sneaking in a comedy - screwball is another fave genre of ours - and we use the January screening as a total holiday from the rules, where anything at all can be screened!

Requests are welcome and a past screening doesn't automatically preclude a particular title from being re-programmed, but it will influence our decisions.
