PROGRAMS

Welcome to our past and present programs!

Year One - 2001        Year Two - 2002         Year Three - 2003

Year Four - 2004      Year Five - 2005        Year Six - 2006

The Big House Film Society takes a broad view of what constitutes a ‘thriller’. Besides the more expected noir and gangster genres, we also have a special fondness for 70s Hollywood. Silent and non-U.S. titles are also in our range.

We try to program films so they bounce off each other. The idea is to create a dialogue between the two films’ themes that deepens their individual impact through being combined. It doesn’t always work that way, but when it does, it’s a knockout!

June, July and August each year the theatre goes to shorter Winter Hours (closing at 4pm instead of the usual 5.00) so we aim then for individual titles of longer duration which can stand alone, preceded often by a short.

We also try to end each year on a lighter note (one does not live by crime alone!) by sneaking in a comedy - screwball is another fave genre of ours! - and we use the January outdoor screening as a total holiday from the rules, where anything at all can be screened!

Requests are welcome and a past screening doesn’t automatically preclude a particular title being re-programmed, but it will influence our decisions.
