We  want to publish your work!

The Big House Film Society has a strong educational orientation, and we encourage submission of original writing on film and related culture from anyone, irrespective of society membership, your location internationally, etc. Previously published material and/or student essays are not a problem. Posting your publication on our site in no way limits your ability to publish the same material elsewhere.

Contributors are recommended to copyright their material. The Big House Film Society will not change the material submitted, nor use the work anywhere besides this website without permission of the author.

Q. Do I have to discuss film noir or can I write about anything?

A. We certainly don't limit our interest to film noir, as the essay on High Noon attests!

Even comedies have their dark side and perhaps our guiding philosophy (if there is one, besides instinct) can be summarised thus: 'Noir is a state of mind'. Related topics like pulp paperbacks etc are fair game. Nor need the content be limited to academic language - academic rigour, yes - but colloquial lingo is cool, as long as it's enlightening and - hopefully - even entertaining!

Potential Future Topics (all up for grabs!) :

‘20th Century Pulp Magazines As 21st Century Source Material’;

‘Can There Be A Western Noir?’;

‘French And Hollywood Thrillers – Their Mutual Connectivity’;

‘The Fedora In Fact And Fiction’;

‘Hitchcock’s Influence On Horror And/Or Noir;

‘Automotive mise-en-scene; etc
